| Tomonori Takeda
The sport of darts is on the rise in the land of the rising
sun. It is becoming one of the biggest markets in the world
and Unicorn is backing one of the best!
Tomonori Takeda is the future of darts in Japan and the Far
East and it was the influence of watching the greatest of
them all - Phil Taylor - that persuaded the 32-year-old
to start on a new journey.
Now living in Kawasaki, near Tokyo, Takeda is one of the
thousands of Japanese who have been caught back the darting
bug. Earlier in 2007, Team Unicorn Global star Ray Carver
went on a promotional tour of the country and was mobbed everywhere
he went!
It seems the Japanese can't get enough of the sport
and PDC Chairman Barry Hearn is determined to further develop
darts in Japan. The country has already been represented twice
at the Ladbrokes.com World Championship and Takeda is desperate
to add his name to the roll of honour.
Over the years, several members of Team Unicorn, including
Taylor and John Part have toured Japan and it has inspired
many to pick up the tungsten for the first time.
Slowly but surely, the darting gospel is being spread in
Japan and Unicorn is delighted to be part of it ... Takeda
has already won titles in singles and doubles and tries to
base his game on his darting hero Colin Lloyd.
Married, away from the oche, he enjoys basketball, Mexican
food and Bon Jovi!
Hopefully we'll be hearing a lot more of Takeda over
the next few years.
